We recommend that you do not put your Walsh footwear in a washing machine or tumble dryer. Instead, we suggest removing any dirt as quick as possible with a brush or cloth. „Flagge zeigen“ war der Ausdruck, mit dem Norman die markante Union-Jack-Farbvariante des ENSIGN in seiner Sportschuhkollektion von 1985 beschrieb.
1981 für Läufer des New-York-Marathons 1981 konzipiert. Während viele andere Sportmarken auf neuere „technologische“ Materialien und Zusammensetzungen setzten, blieb Norman seiner gewohnten „weniger ist mehr“-Ideologie treu. Der Ensign bot dauerhafte Strapazierfähigkeit, Komfort und Stabilität in Form einer Vibram-Moreflex-Außensohle mit einem dicken zusätzlichen Keil in der Mittelsohle für eine gedämpfte Fersenlandung und zugleich Flexibilität. Das schlichte Obermaterial wurde ebenfalls aus leichten Materialien gefertigt und bot rundum Fußhalt. Der ENSIGN sollte später den EUROPEAN inspirieren.
